Melissa Gonzalez

Melissa is a Freshman at the University of South Florida's Honors College where she is a Pre-Med student majoring in Biomedical Science. She will also be dancing on the football field and the basketball court as a USF Sundoll. Melissa graduated from Tampa Catholic High School with high honors. She was on the dance team for three years and was on the cheer team for one year. She was named NCA All American Cheerleader as a freshmen. Aside from dance and cheer Melissa excels in academics. She was inducted into all seven honor societies and served as an officer in several. Melissa was also selected to all of the elite clubs at Tampa Catholic including Ambassador, Campus Ministry, SHAPE, Student Government, Think Pink, and Key Club.

Melissa also works tirelessly volunteering at local hospitals and nursing homes. She received the President's Award for Outstanding Community Service all four years. Melissa was nominated by the faculty and staff to represent Tampa Catholic with the very prestigious Anne Frank Humanitarian Award as the most outstanding all around student humanitarian at her school. She also won the Heisman Trophy for excellence on and off the field. Melissa was first runner up for the Miss Florida preliminary pageant.

Besides dancing, cheering, excelling in academics, volunteering, and being involved in extracurricular activites, Melissa was the captain of Xtreme's Competition Team for three years, and took sixteen years of dance instructions. She studied at Jackie's Dance Studio, and then Jackie's Jammin' Studio under the direction of Jackie Loto. She has also taken workshops and instruction from dance legends/choreographers and she competed since age 8. Melissa has taken all disciplines (ballet, pointe, jazz, Broadway jazz, lyrical, modern, musical theatre, contemporary, hip-hop, acrobatics, flamenco, cheer/tumble, technique, and tap). Melissa won numerous high awards and special awards for group and feature numbers on the competition circuit. Her last two competition seasons she was awarded the Regional Dancer of the Year Title for her solo.

Melissa loves children and loves sharing her passion for dance with them. She has volunteered to assist with dance camps both at her high school and dance school for the past five summers. This is her fourth year teaching at Xtreme Dance Company of Tampa, and first year as Co-Director of the Competition Team.
